Why it’s “amiibo”, not “amiibos”

New amiibo trainers are often offended by the competitive amiibo scene’s inside joke: “The plural of amiibo is amiibo.” It’s a deadpan joke, delivered with dry humor. It’s kind of a characteristic of the amiibo scene.

It actually isn’t amiibos. People intuitively add -s to the end of amiibo, but official word from Nintendo indicate that isn’t the case. This is what Nintendo said when they announced amiibo for the first time.

Right. The plural of amiibo is amiibo.
