Paper Mario TTYD Switch: How to Get Money Money Badge Easily

by Doc – Owner, Founder, Does Not Have a Money Money Badge For Real Life

[Spoilers are limited but minorly present].

Many of the more arcane and complicated badge setups require a tremendous amount of money, and players wanting to equip themselves with expensive badges or Jelly Ultras before tackling the final boss and Pit of 100 Trials are going to have a hard grind ahead of them…

…unless they have the Money Money badge.

The Money Money badge is a 5 BP badge only obtainable from a Chapter 4 quiz involving Boo, the Pianta Parlor for 450 Pianta Tokens in the remake or in the final area of the game with a low drop rate against an obscure enemy, so long as you completed the required trouble. It boosts the amount of money earned from battles by ~50% by my estimation, and stacks with extra Money Money badges. Let’s assume you want it before the final area of the game.

Method 1

During Chapter 4, you’re asked how many Boos came out of a box. After completing the chapter, you can return to that area and correctly answer several quizzes in a row to eventually receive the badge. This is the only easy free way to get the badge, and it’s only available in the remake.

If you didn’t get the Money Money badge here, then move to the next Method.

Method 2

For Method 2 and 3, you need to have completed the “I need my magazine” trouble post-Chapter 6.

To get it, you’ll need to come up with 1,350 coins’ worth of Pianta Tokens.

Let’s do a bit of planning before you complete Chapter 4. Prior to completing Chapter 4, Lumpy The Rat will be standing on the right side of the harbor in Rogueport. Talk to him if you have 300 coins and give them all to him. When Lumpy returns after Chapter 6, he’ll give you 999 coins to thank you for the investment. Even if you don’t have 300 coins, give him everything you can, and don’t be afraid to sell those random 1 BP badges that you don’t use to the badge shop. Badges like Close Call P are never realistically going to be useful because partners are replaceable, so feel free to sell those.

When Lumpy comes back, he’ll give you nearly all of the money you’ll need for the Money Money badge, making your grind much shorter.

Method 3

Alternatively, you can grind out that many Pianta Tokens using minigames, which will take several hours. You’ll still gain a lot of coins if you’re good at them but at a rate of ~15+ Tokens every 2-3 minutes you’ll be grinding for a while. Don’t forget to sell whatever badges you aren’t using to lessen the grind for yourself.

Once you’ve obtained your first Money Money badge you’ll find that you gain money much faster, and may even want to take an hour to grind out another 1,350 coins for a second badge. With two Money Money badges equipped, your grind gets way faster.

The Best Grinding Method with Money Money

[I’m keeping this next portion vague so as not to spoil the endgame].

I like to, after unlocking the Chapter 7 area and opening the fast travel pipe, exit the Chapter 7 town to the left, attack the first enemy spawn (which should be four of the same enemy) and quickly defeat it using attack-all moves like Fire Drive and the Chapter 4 partner. One run against that specific spawn typically pulls in 30-40 coins inside of one minute, and I need only to re-enter the town to force that enemy to respawn. Until Level 25 that enemy spawn also grants at least a dozen Star Points, making it tremendously easy to grind SP on. When my FP gets low, I just head into town and pay the 15 coins at the inn to refresh it all. You’ll find that your financial needs are very quickly met after you get two Money Money badges.

Best of luck!
