What’s The Impact Of the 0.66 Update in TCG Card Shop Simulator?

by Doc – Owner, Founder, Owner and Founder of My TCG Card Shop Too

The 0.66 update released a few hours ago, and with it several reworks to the employee system, all of which I consider to be very necessary and in some ways kind of mind-blowing.

The Singles Strat

The big bottleneck in TCG Card Shop Simulator has always been time – specifically, yours. You can somewhat automate your store by having employees set prices and stock merchandise as it comes in, requiring you to only reorder new merchandise with the new scanner item, but that still requires your intervention. For the entire duration of the game’s life, simple retail buy-and-resell merchandise strats have been the way to go, and everything else has been fringe and a minor interest at best.

That’s not the case anymore. Singles cards, which were previously the most time intensive way to make money in the game, are now almost completely automated. The steps go like this:

  1. Order booster packs.
  2. Have employee stock those booster packs on shelf.
  3. Have employee automatically load them into card machine.
  4. Once the card opening machine finishes, collect the cards and quick fill your new singles into the new card opening box.
  5. An employee stocks them from there.
  6. Sell ’em and rebuy booster packs.

It’s like a cycle of money making! And all it requires is significant capital investment up front from you, and occasionally reordering booster packs and restocking singles cards into the card opening box. I should make note that grading is not affected by this, as grading is still something that you must do manually and wait out the time on, but that’s okay – grading is another level of RNG meant only for your most valuable cards.

I’m pretty thrilled about this, because I have always wanted to be a singles cards shop but singles stocking takes far too long, placing 5 to 6 cards per minute at the fastest. It was quite irritating to have to place 100 cards in a day, and have the day end before I finished placing everything! So I’m pretty happy about further automation.

In other news, workers gained a skill level system where as they perform more of the same task they get better at that task. You can pay a few hundred dollars, with the exact amount being determined by their normal salary and increasing accordingly, to temporarily boost their performance by up to 8% per bonus. The highest you can go is a three star amount, which does not appear to be a permanent bonus but is useful in those crunch times when you have money to spare but not employees. I imagine if simulated Black Friday and or Christmas seasons are ever added to the game, this feature will be very useful!

Card tournament tables have been nerfed, which is quite funny as they were already the worst option to make money in the game. They no longer give you hardly any XP, although you do have the option to charge more for the tournament if the store rating is pretty high. I’m not going to lie, it’s pretty hard to have a high store rating after the 0.65 update – you now will lose all of your positive reviews if you do not turn the light on each day at about 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. I know there are mods to automatically turn it on, so I’d recommend getting one of those. Either way, play tables weren’t worth it before, and they’re definitely not worth it now.

The 0.66.2 update is the most recent one, though if the 0.65 updates are any indication we will likely have several more before we get to a stable release and stick with it for a while.
