So this just showed up on the Nintendo website:

I’m absolutely certain this link will be taken down as it’s certainly not up on purpose, but here it is anyway.
I don’t think anyone’s surprised by this, as the Joy-Cons basically have all the functionality of a Wii Remote already minus onboard speakers and the fact they don’t technically use the exact same infrared technology as the Wii did, but they compensate for it pretty handily with the accelerometers and other sensors in the thing. Modern Switch games convincingly emulate the Wiimote, and correct me if I’m wrong, but I think even the Dolphin emulator can use the Joy-Cons to emulate a Wiimote! If Ninty were to produce a Wii Remote-styled hardware hack of a Joy-Con it’d be pretty easy for them to do so. And it’d make sense from a business perspective, too! The Wii is old enough to be “retro” and-

-Nintendo has been steadily moving old console titles into the Switch Online platform anyway. So they’d like to keep the consumer base interested in that $50/year price tag by probably introducing some of those Wii titles.
Can you believe the Wii was four consoles ago? Crikey.
