I started training amiibo in Smash 4, way before you kids had your newfangled Nintendo Switchers and Joyous Cons, and let me tell you: it was terrible. Smash 4 amiibo training was a mess compared to Ultimate. Amiibo were guaranteed to jump, and their opponent was guaranteed to frame-perfect retaliate with an Up Smash. Equipment trainers had to ban a total of 7 characters and effects to keep a barely-balanced ruleset, and tournament victories among the high tiers were predictable just by looking at the bracket on round 1.
It was bad. You can relive it here! Fighting starts about 6 minutes in.
