Welcome to Amiibo Doctor! In addition to training this amiibo, we also have the most cutting-edge guides for nearly every amiibo in the competitive amiibo scene’s many Discord servers. You should also reference our Raid Boss amiibo guides, and if you’re having trouble winning in competitive amiibo, check the official amiibo tier list! Happy training!
I’m fammydamammy, also known as “Fammy,” and I’m known for several amiibo, one of them being my Pyra & Mythra amiibo. Ever since the pre-release, I and soysauce have been working hard labbing out the behavior and optimal training for Pythra, being able to obtain many great placements in tournaments and a total of three vanilla tournament wins between us.
Hello, I’m soysauce! I have been labbing Pyra & Mythra since before release with fammy, and we have devised with what we believe to be optimal for the duo. With this training, we have gotten multiple wins and many top 8 placements, as well as holding the top 2 spots for Pyra & Mythra on Amiibots together.

AI Issues
When it comes to the AI for Pythra, it is fairly competent, having a great amount of hardcoded combos that allows the amiibo to build damage or even kill. However, there is a level of inconsistency to the AI due to how switching is programmed.
When it comes to teaching regular moves, Pyra & Mythra share the same move values much like Pokémon Trainer, where say, teaching Forward Smash teaches all three Pokémon to use Forward Smash. The same is true for Pyra & Mythra, where teaching one move to one of them will also teach the other that move as well. However, this is not true for Special moves and specifically Side Special. Teaching Side Special as Pyra will teach only Pyra to use Side Special, and so teaching Side Special as Mythra will teach only Mythra to use their own Side Special as well.
With that being said, also avoid switching with Down Special mid-match at all costs. If you want to switch between the two during training, it is best done at the character select screen before starting a match.
When it comes to the AI’s tendency to switch, it appears to be mostly random when they will switch except for the instance of switching to Mythra over Pyra for recovery purposes. This leads to one of their more exploitable AI behaviors though, being that Mythra will tend to go above the ledge when trying to recover horizontally with Up Special, which leaves them horribly vulnerable to attacks at ledge, such as Little Mac Down Smash.

Overall Playstyle
The Pyra & Mythra amiibo in amiibo vs amiibo matches should focus primarily on using Pyra as often as possible in order to maximize potential damage output and kill power. Pyra’s Side Special serves as an amazing neutral tool – it can easily allow Pyra to get in and start advantage state, and used in tandem with Down Smash, Rapid Jab, and Up Smash makes Pythra a force to be reckoned with in amiibo. Pyra & Mythra also have one of the more extensive pre-programmed combo trees in amiibo, which are as follows:
Pyra
Down Tilt -> Forward Air
Down Tilt -> Up Special
Down Throw -> Forward Air
Down Throw -> Up Air
Down Throw -> Up Special
Down Air -> Up Smash
Down Air -> Up Special
Down Air -> Grab
Down Air -> Jab
Mythra
Down Tilt -> Neutral Special
Down Tilt -> Up Special
Down Tilt -> Up Smash
Forward Tilt -> Dash Attack
Forward Tilt -> Forward Smash
Forward Tilt -> Forward Air
Up Tilt -> Up Special
Up Tilt -> Up Smash

How to Train the Pyra & Mythra Amiibo in Smash Ultimate
For starters, Down Smash is one of the most important moves in Pythra’s kit. It’s a strong option for both characters, functioning as a quick kill-move and get-off-me tool that can beat out perfect shielding with it’s multi-hit capabilities. Use it often when the opponent is up close.
Rapid Jab is another important move in Pythra’s kit, serving as a strong secondary get-off-me tool that is excellent for building damage and setting up for follow-ups via tech chasing. Use it often alongside Down Smash but prioritize Down Smash more.
Side Special is an amazing tool for Pythra, allowing her to safely rack up damage from a distance simply and easily. Pyra’s Side Special’s ability to linger and hit multiple times also makes it very hard to block for amiibo, allowing it to hit very often even against defensively trained amiibo. In addition, it’s also a great move at ledge as it lingers and covers the area for a long duration. That being said, Mythra’s Side Special isn’t nearly as amazing, but is still decent to use optionally. Be careful using too much, though, as it is very unsafe on shield. Use Pyra’s Side Special often when approaching or at a distance.
Down Tilt is one of Pyra & Mythra’s strongest combo tools – it sets up for very strong combos that are great for building damage or even occasionally killing. Use Down Tilt often up close, but less than Down Smash and Rapid Jab.
Up Smash serves as an amazing anti-air that is great for catching landings and covering platforms. Use it often for when the opponent is above.
Grabs are very solid, being another strong combo starter in Pythra’s kit for its many follow-ups. Throw them in a good amount but try not to overuse them.
Dash attack is a solid option that can be taught occasionally. It is absurdly strong on Pyra and very solid on Mythra for being able to set up for tech chases and ledgetrap scenarios.
Down Air and Neutral Air are going to be Pythra’s primary landing options. Down Air has a large hitbox that covers a lot of space and can leave room for follow-ups for extra damage or even kills. Alongside Down Air, Neutral Air is also another very strong option. It serves as a better aerial get-off-me tool than Down Air because it covers all around them but can be prone to spam if used too much. Focus more on Down Air when training, but still use occasional Neutral Air to land alongside it. Back Air and a little bit of Forward Air can also be sprinkled in for landing, but these moves are not nearly as important as the moves previously mentioned.
Up Air is an amazing juggling tool for both characters that can be effective for dealing damage and taking stocks. Juggle with Up Air very often.
You can also occasionally use Forward Air and Down Air in combination to gimp opponents but be sure to only go off occasionally as Pyra & Mythra are prone to getting footstooled. It’s a high risk, high reward combo.

Why It Works
Unlike in regular competitive smash, Pyra & Mythra are far more balanced and well-rounded in the amiibo meta due to not having many particularly strong options against other amiibo aside from Pyra’s Side Special. However, regardless, they are still a strong threat due to their solid frame data and decent kill power. But they’re rounded out by having a horribly exploitable recovery.
