As the resident Old Man of the amiibo community, I’ve watched many years of amiibo collecting come and go, and I’ve written extensively on the economics of the secondhand amiibo market. I don’t think it’s unfair to say that I know more about it than anyone else – not because I’m smart or anything, but because there’s no one else who would be interested in amiibo economics.
From the Old Man to your ears, I give you this advice:
Sell Your Amiibo Before Christmas.
…at least, if you’re going to sell them.
The span of time from Black Friday to Christmas Eve is the absolute best time to sell collectibles of all stripes, and amiibo is no exception due to amiibo collectors having an extensive 8-year backlog of amiibo they missed out on. However, amiibo prices have been uncharacteristically low since January of this year, and they’ve yet to recover to their overpriced, unwieldy glory. Typically amiibo prices drop again in January: so if you’re planning to sell amiibo, sell them before Christmas or don’t sell them at all. You’re not going to get a better deal than these next four weeks.
