Behavior Values
Offensive: I prefer a more defensive Ganon who can wall opponents with f tilt and beat other’s approaches. My Ganondorf has an offensive value of 33.
Shield/Just Shield: Both of these values should be 100. Ganondorf also has very rewarding parry options which can lead into stocks taken at early percents.
Grounded Tools
F Tilt: Ganondorf’s f tilt is absurd. It sends at a terrible angle for the opponent, amiibo repetitively roll into it, and it leads into side b or down b. I like a value between 44–50.
Side B: Side b is an amazing command grab that has follow ups such as f tilt, down tilt, and down smash. This should be used slightly more than down b.
Down B: Ganon’s down b allows him to out-priority most hitboxes at a distance and some projectiles such as Link’s boomerang. It is very useful in helping Ganondorf to get into his phenomenal advantage state. Amiibo also appear to have a hard time parrying the expiring hitbox of down b, which is very useful — this can allow Ganondorf to take stocks or send opponents at a poor angle due to the expiring hitbox sending opponents horizontally. This should be used a little less than side b.
Dash Attack: His dash attack is strong, has low endlag, and has good follow-ups. Dash attacker should be 100.
Grab: Ganondorf’s grab is great due to his back throw kill power and his down throw strings. Despite this, I prefer a catcher between 30–45 because I do not wish for his grab to get in the way of his f tilt. You still want Ganondorf to f tilt people instead of grab them when they roll from ledge.
Up Smash: Up smash is an amazing anti-air due to its large size and absurd kill potential. Up smash can also be used lightly to take stocks up close since it can catch rolls. I prefer a value between 19–20.
Optional
Edge Guarding: My Ganondorf is fully onstage, but edge guarding works as well. If you would like to incorporate it, I would prefer a lower attack out cliff of maybe around the 30s. For edge guarding use fair, dair, and ledge drop bair. Edge guarding has not been found to be better or worse for Ganondorf presently.
F Smash: I personally do not like f smash. F smash can take stocks at very early percentages, but can be easily parried and even more easily out-framed due to its long start up. In my opinion, it is not worth the risk of losing neutral or advantage for having your f smash parried or out-framed when f tilt can easily find kills and can set up for other moves at lower percentages. If you do wish to incorporate some f smash, I would prefer the value stayed quite low.
Moves Not to Use
- Up Tilt: Ganondorf’s up tilt is his worst move. The only time Ganondorf’s up tilt is acceptable is on ledge, which he does anyway. His up tilt is very easily parried and is extremely slow, leading to Ganondorf getting out-framed.
- Neutral B: Most moves that function like Falcon Punch or Byleth’s down b don’t work well since they are easily parried and can’t be cancelled. This is one of them.
- Down Tilt: Ganondorf does have a good down tilt, but it is outclassed by his amazing f tilt. F tilt is stronger and sends at a more preferable angle than down tilt. Any usage of down tilt is taking away from what could’ve been used for f tilt.
- Down Smash: Ganondorf’s down smash is strong and sends at a preferable angle, but when used facing the opponent the hitbox is rather small and if missed or parried the opponent can punish Ganondorf during end lag. Like down tilt, it is just outclassed by f tilt.
- Jab: Jab would be Ganondorf’s second best up-close option after f tilt. It is definitely useable but again f tilt is almost as spammable, stronger, and has more range. At least in amiibo, the slightly slower start up of f tilt isn’t that harmful since it’s only a few frames.
- Up B: Ganondorf’s up b obviously just isn’t worth using onstage due to the move only hitting in close proximity and when missed sends Ganondorf above the opponent into disadvantage. F tilt, grab, and dash attack are all better or more rewarding moves to use.
Landing
I personally didn’t land with any aerials with Ganondorf, but if I did I would prioritize fair, bair, and light down b in the order listed.
